Short Exposure Trip FAQ

1. What kind of tasks will I be serving in?

You’ll get the chance to serve in one (or more) of our four main areas: Education, Social Work, Health Care, and Social Enterprise. Each platform is hands-on and meaningful—you’ll be part of something that impacts lives directly.

2. Who will I be serving?

ElShaddai serves the diaspora community from more than 20 countries. You’ll meet and journey alongside refugees, undocumented people, stateless people, and even international university students.

3. What documents do I need to prepare?
Just bring a valid passport—simple as that!
4. Who should I contact with regarding the short exposure trip?
You need to go through our Friends Across Border team representative in Singapore (+65 9732 9921)
5. What about lodging, transport, food, and travel?
We provide affordable lodging options, and transport is easy with Grab or public transport. Meals are very budget-friendly—around RM10–20 per meal—so you’ll be able to enjoy local food without worry.
6. How long can I stay?
Your trip can be as short or as long as you’re available. And if, after your initial trip, you’d like to stay longer and go deeper—that’s absolutely possible!

Internship / Volunteering FAQ

1. What kind of platforms can I serve in?

We have a variety of platforms depending on your interest and skills, such as:

  • IT and Mass Communication
    e.g. website developer, write articles and stories, digital training, photographer, videographer…
  • Social Work
    e.g. counselling, family visit, social care in the communities, creating social training workshop / courses…
  • Education
    e.g. subject teacher, mentoring community teachers, designing new curriculum, teacher training…
  • Health Care
    e.g. health education in the community, dietary advise, home based physiotherapy, medical / dental clinic, Traditional Chinese Medicine ….
  • Social Enterprise
    e.g. aircon repair, bakery & cookies, organic farm, online marketing training…
2. When can I come, and for how long?
You can come at different times of the year—just let us know which month(s) work best for you. The length of stay is flexible, from short-term internships to longer-term placements.
Usually 1-3 months. Can discuss further if a longer period is needed.
3. What documents do I need to have?
Recommendation letter from church, school, university, seminaries, organization …

Short Training Courses FAQ

1. What area of diaspora lessons can I learn?

Our learning covers several areas (each with a few topics):

  • Movement Trends – Who moves and why
  • Life on the Move – Daily challenges and realities
  • Building ConnectionsForming service platforms
  • Journey Together – Walking alongside the diaspora
  • Partnering for Impact – Mobilizing care and support
  • Language Learning – Communicating across cultures

We also provide advanced topics through interactive discussions.

2. What mode of learning can I choose?
  • Face-to-Face (F2F): In Malaysia and sometimes in other locations.
  • Online: Flexible sessions that you can join from anywhere.
  • Hybrid: A blend of online learning and in-person workshops.
3. Where can I get the training?
Most trainings are conducted in Malaysia (including residential immersion programs). Depending on the course, some trainings can also be arranged in Singapore.

 

4. What programs can I join, and how long do they last?

We offer programs with a variety of formats and duration:

  • Xplore: 3 × 90-minute sessions (every 3 months, fits well into group gathering times)
  • Xplore Special Edition: 1 × 180-minute session
  • Residential Cultural Immersion: 1–3 weeks
  • Monthly Community Service: 3 hours per session over the weekend
  • Creative workshops & advanced topics: Flexible duration
5. How much should I pay?
Costs depend on the type and length of the training, but we keep them affordable. Details will be given for each program.

 

6. Who will I learn from?
You will learn from frontliners serving among the diaspora communities. They teach with passion and experience.
